However, the event organizers are stepping up to move the parade online for a virtual celebration of the Dominican spirit.
The online parade will kick off Sunday at 1 p.m., but you have to register on the National Dominican Day Parade’s website to participate.
There are over 700,000 Dominicans living in New York City.
The parade will recognize 16 individuals who are “making a positive impact” in the Dominican community, including Zoe Yadira Saldana Nazario, NYPD Sgt. Eric Perez, and FDNY Lelis Rosario.
Additionally, multiple elected officials are listed as “special guests” for the Dominican Day Parade on its website:
- Senator Chuck Shumer
- Congressmember Adriano Espaillat
- NY State Governor Andrew Cuomo
- NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio
Sponsors for the Dominican Day Parade include Tito’s, ABC 7, Goya, Emblem Health, and El Diario.
The actors Celines Toribio and Ruperto Vanderpool will host the parade.
